Singapore welcomes The International Champions Cup to the National Stadium from July 25 to July 29 2017 for its debut in the city, featuring Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. Having successfully held the tournament in the U.S., China and Australia previously, it gives football fans in Singapore the first chance to experience its unique atmopshere and a chance for football fans in and around the city state to catch some of the best players in the world as they go head to head for the coveted trophy.
The tournament kicks off on Tuesday July 25 when English champions Chelsea will take on German champions Bayern Munich in a repeat of the 2012 UEFA Champions League final, which was decided on penalties and which Chelsea won 4-3 on penalties after the teas played out a hard fought 1-1 draw after extra time. It’s a mouth-watering start to the three-day tournament but, with the level of teams involved, there really isn’t a bad game! The kick off time is 7.35pm for each match.
The second game pits the German champions against the Italians giants of Inter Milan, two teams with an impressive European pedigree as well as regular contenders for their respective championships. Bayern may have lost that 2012 final to Chelsea but they returned in 2013 to pick up the trophy once again. Inter, on the other hand, got the better of Bayern Munich 2-0 in 2010 when the Champions League victory completed an historic treble. We’re not suggesting that the teams will be out for revenge on each other but neither will this be a casual stroll around the national stadium.
The third and final match and one that could turn out to be a thrilling decider sees Chelsea pit their wits against Inter Milan. This sees the English champions’ Italian manager Bruno Conte go head to head with his compatriots as he tries to steer Chelsea to yet another piece of silverware in his first season in charge. Tickets are available online at www.sportshub.com.sg, the Sports Hub Box Office, all Singapore Post outlets and via phone booking at +65 3158 7888.
