February 15 and 16 2019 sees Chingay 2019 – Dreams Funtasia (Bicentennial edition) – take over the F1 Pit Building for the 47th edition of the colourful extravaganza. The multicultural street and float celebration returns to underline the creativity and imagination of Singaporean’s and looks forward to the future by featuring a selection of artists, performers ad creatives across two fantastic days.
Chingay 2019 is an extra special event, celebrating the Bicentennial of the famous gathering. To commemorate this special edition, there will be a first-of-its-kind 270m painting depicting ‘Past, Present & Future’ Singapore, which will open the parade as a meaningful gift from the community to Singapore for the milestone year. Three multi-disciplinary Singaporean artists have collaborated to create the piece, which illustrates Singapore from the simple fishing village of 200 years ago to the modern-day, multi-cultural metropolis that exists today. It depicts Singaporeans and residents from all walks of life, many who have left their fingerprints on the artwork, symbolising their commitment to work together towards the next 200 years. The completed painting will be digitised and enlarged on to a 270metre long artwork, which will be brought to life by 240 performers at the parade. The three artists, joined by six budding artists, will then apply the finishing touches live, during the parade.
Chingay 2019 features exciting performances from a diverse representation of cultural and interest groups, coming together to share a passion for the pursuit of dreams in life. You will be dazzled by electrifying performances from stilt walkers, freestyle lions on huge poles and a 49metre LED flying balloon dragon, not to mention cheerleaders, unicyclists, rhythmic gymnasts and LED kite enthusiasts. Hundreds of young people will come together to present a futuristic and dynamic finale, celebrating Singapore as a nation. The Bicentennial edition welcomes back the Carnival for its second year, from February 15 to 17, from 3pm until 10pm, transforming the space behind the Singapore Flyer into a Chingay wonderland! Sunday February 17 sees the F1 race track turned into a huge adventure playground for all ages to challenge themselves with special giveaways and prizes to be won. It’s a fantastic day out for all the family.
